flee slavery by the Dutch on the colony. As they advance in their trip

unflinching in face of all that surrounds them, with the steadfast
notion of getting to their destiny. The film is made by around a dozen

Sinopsis / Synopsis: A bitter young man who is paralyzed from the waist down after an
accident has been appointed a new nurse, their relationship is cool, to
put it midly, and his authoritarian father is also not a model of
warmth and understanding. In long, neutral scenes separated by hard
cuts, the contours of a restrained psychological drama emerge in which
the young man’s cynicism slowly makes way for a renewed, cautious
attempt to explore life. Then, the film unexpectedly drops all
reserves and explodes in a hallucinogenic ode to the universe that,
alike people, has to go through a cycle of birth and death. Behind the
narration about the paralyzed man and his nurse lies the real essence:
a meditation about our place in the cosmos – insignificant, yet grand.
It all comes together in that long, majestic shot of a birth.

Costa, a friend of Balibar's who did the camera work himself, filmed
her in long, static shots in which all attention is focused on her
performance. This film, shot digitally, shows how versatile Balibar is.
Costa also manages to portray the creative process, for instance in a
scene in which Balibar and her guitarist Rodolphe Burger try out
several variations of a song. Costa's intimate portrait of the singer
is filmed in black-and-white. Costa, has seen many of his films

Reparto / Cast: Maia Kilmenko, Ivan Krasko, Oleg Basilashvili, Boris Averin, Elena Shtopfen.
Sonido / Sound: Nikolaj Almaev
Sinopsis / Synopsis: Various people of different ages and professions read parts from the
famous book by Alexander Adamovich and Daniil Granin about the siege of
Leningrad. The origins of The Book of Blockade go back to the 60s, when
they wrote the stories of a group of survivors of the almost 900-day
siege of Stalingrad (current Saint Petersburg) by the Germans during
WWII. From September, 1941, to January, 1944, a million and a half
civilians and soldiers died. Based on this experience, Sokurov reunited
in a studio a diverse group of people (children, elderly people,
students, professionals, artists and military) and allowed them to read
parts from the book. When faced today with words from the past
describing hunger, death, cannibalism and destruction, the eventual
actors (and also the viewer) are confronted with a reality which forces
them to reconnect with those stories, from the comfort and safety of
their own current lives.

Sinopsis / Synopsis: This is a cold and subjective observation of the Ruhr valley. Local or
visitor, his camera has the same almost magnetic relationship with the
elements inside the frame, setting a vital and indivisible dialog with
its surroundings. A tunnel, a factory, a forest, a temple, a graffiti
remover, a street and a giant chimney: the amazing thing about Ruhr is
that, even when you know beforehand what its images show, you can never
be fully certain if that is what you’re actually seeing.

Reparto / Cast: Soldado kurdos / Kurd soldiers
Sonido / Sound: Gil Savoy
Sinopsis / Synopsis:
For
a whole month, Beau filmed a Kurdish battalion of the Iraqi army with
a digital camera. This
battalion was located in Mossoul.
He filmed each day in the lives of these soldiers, from their endless
wanderings through the city looking for terrorists to their long
periods of wait. The
stunning proximity of images doesn’t spare us any of their
harrowing brutality, the beatings, the yelling, an exhausted city,
houses violated, terrifying searches, fear that reigns and quashes
everyone. The action in this film takes place in one day, from
sunrise till sunset. The film constructs its own temporality. Which
one? That of a law that wants to absorb chaos. In reality, it is
chaos that is absorbing law.

Sinopsis / Synopsis: Shot in Russia, in Kaliningrad, the former German city then named
Königsberg, emptied of its inhabitants after WWII and repopulated since
by Russian migrants, the film follows over a period of almost fifteen
years the track of certain characters whose fate, we are soon given to
understand, is more or less sealed in advance. Moreover, an off voice
tells us without mercy that they have passed away while we see them on
the screen moving around and struggling to survive. Nothing must be
omitted in this descent into hell, not forgetting that it implies the
corpses of those who chose to give up. The fact that Oleg Morozov, the
film director who now and again appears on the screen, died some weeks
after finishing his film renders his tribute to the future as a
testimony from the realms of death.

Interweaving both cinéma-vérité and interview of Filipino victims and
their families, environmental spokespersons, and community activists,
along with early photographic material pertaining to the
Philippine-American War, partisan songs, historical texts, and
landscape photography, Vapor trail (Clark) is an attempt to construct a

Guión / Screenwriter: Liu Jiayin
Fotografía / Cinematographer: Liu Jiayin

Reparto / Cast: Liu Zai Ping, Jia Hui Fen, Liu Jiayin
Sonido / Sound: Liu Jiayin
Sinopsis / Synopsis: Just as in her previous film, Oxhide, the Chinese director films
herself and her parents in their rather clastrophobic apartment with
documentary realism. She used nine fixed camera positions, with which
she turns clockwise around the kitchen table (so that the last shot
has exactly the same perspective as the first). The resulting
rigorously minimalistic story passes in real time is a long as it
takes to clear a worktable, to prepare Chinese dumplings on it and to
eat them. While the meal is being prepared, the three talk occasionally
about the problems with the wife and daughter having a serious word
with the father. However, as long as they talk about making dumplings,
the family is united.
